Missing Registry Entry was behind missing Windows 10 icon by jeff leites / June 26, 2015 9:19 PM PDT In reply to: Why am I not seeing the Windows 10 upgrade icon? I had this problem on my Windows 8.1 Desktop, but not my Windows 8.1 Tablet. I had the necessary updates installed on both computers. After a lot of web research, I found a solution that worked for me. I was missing a registry entry on my Desktop. Check your registry for HKEY Local Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeExperienceIndicators Inside that folder you should see an entry for UpgEx REG_SZ Green That was missing on my Desktop. I found the following instructions that add that entry to the registry: start>command prompt (run as administrator) copy and paste this little script and it SHOULD pop the icon up on your task bar right away. reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeExperienceIndicators" /v UpgEx /t REG_SZ /d Green /f %SystemRoot%\System32\GWX\GWX.exe /taskLaunch After running that command, the Window 10 icon popped right up in my systray. It worked for me.
